about

Maitrī is a WA-based grassroots initiative offering trauma-responsive wellbeing programs that support nervous system wellbeing, emotional resilience, connection, and community through gentle movement, breath, rest, and relational care.

The word Maitrī comes from Sanskrit and is often translated as loving-kindness — a spirit of compassion, goodwill, and gentle care for all beings. These qualities guide the intention behind every Maitrī program.

Maitrī was created in response to the growing recognition that stress, trauma, overwhelm, and the demands of modern life can place significant strain on the nervous system and emotional wellbeing of individuals and communities. While practical and clinical supports remain essential, opportunities for rest, connection, and gentle regulation of the body are equally important.

Maitrī programs offer calm and welcoming spaces where participants can reconnect with themselves through simple movement, breath awareness, relaxation, and restorative practices. Sessions are designed to be accessible, inclusive, and suitable for individuals with no previous experience of movement or wellbeing practices.

Programs are developed to support a range of community groups, including emergency services personnel and volunteers, mothers and babies, young people, and individuals seeking gentle, trauma-informed wellbeing support within community.

Programs are designed to nurture nervous system wellbeing, build emotional resilience and confidence, and encourage connection through supportive group experiences.

Everything offered through Maitrī is invitational and grounded in dignity, safety, autonomy, and respect. Participants are encouraged to engage in whatever way feels supportive and comfortable for them.

Maitrī welcomes opportunities to collaborate with organisations, schools, emergency services, and community groups seeking gentle, accessible wellbeing support for their people and the communities they serve.

Through compassion, connection, and community care, Maitrī seeks to create meaningful spaces of calm, resilience, healing, and belonging.
